History
York Health Group PBC Consortium was established in September 2005 as Practice Based Commissioning was being introduced within the NHS. The Consortium of 25 Practices (now 24 as one former Practice was absorbed) has remained stable and strong throughout the development of Practice Based Commissioning, leading the way within North Yorkshire PCT (now NHS North Yorkshire & York).
YHG's aim has been to maintain, and improve where possible, the local high standard of patient care pathways. Significant work has been undertaken, pooling Practice efforts, resources and initial budgetary savings to develop care closer to home wherever appropriate, safe and efficient.
Co-operative dialogue with Secondary care colleagues within the local hospital and with PCT Commissioning colleagues has been key in creating high quality sustained local improvements in care pathways; eg Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) care, improved diagnosis and treatment of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) cases, Community Dermatology and Eye-Care services.
Starting from a solid pre-determined co-operative foundation, YHG developed a secure legal and administrative base by the start of 2007 and became a company limited by guarantee in June 2009. This significant development allowed YHG to employ staff and consolidate its structure with a view to improvements in performance and scope of commissioning potential.
